NASA SmallSats Launch to Advance Science, Technology, Orbital Operations

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket launches the 18th Transporter rideshare mission from Space Launch Complex 4 East at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2026.

Starfish Space is helping advance the future of in-space servicing and orbital operations through NASA’s latest small satellite missions.

Launched aboard SpaceX’s Transporter-18 rideshare mission, Starfish Space’s Otter 24C spacecraft will demonstrate autonomous technologies for inspecting inoperable satellites in low Earth orbit — including advanced propulsion, navigation, guidance, and computer-vision systems.

The mission is expected to begin satellite inspections in 2027, providing valuable data for the future of in-space servicing, satellite assistance, and orbital debris management.

A meaningful step toward making space infrastructure more accessible, autonomous, and sustainable.
